CJM Concrete — the flatwork crew
Concrete Work in Arlington, TX
Driveways, patios, walkways, shop and equipment slabs, retaining walls, and tearing out the cracked slab that is already there. Formed, reinforced, poured and finished by our own crew — with the base compacted properly, because that is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether it cracks.
Book it through here when the pour is one phase of a bigger job: a pad with a cover going over it, a driveway with a gate at the end of it, an equipment slab under a line that also needs insulating. For concrete on its own, CJM Concrete has the finishes, the thickness guidance and a calculator that gives you yards, bags and a price band.
What goes in the ground
Residential flatwork: driveways and approaches, patios, sidewalks and steps, garage and shed slabs, and stamped or broom finishes depending on what the space is for. Commercial and light-industrial: equipment pads, dock aprons, shop floors and trash-enclosure slabs.
Retaining walls where a grade change needs holding, and tear-out where a slab has heaved, spalled or cracked past repair — hauled off and replaced rather than skimmed over, which never lasts.
The parts you cannot see
The base course gets graded and compacted before any concrete arrives, because a slab poured on loose fill will crack no matter how good the finish looks on day one. Reinforcement — rebar on chairs or mesh, sized to what the slab has to carry — sits at depth, not pushed down into the bottom where it does nothing.
Control joints are cut so the slab cracks where we choose instead of where it wants to, spaced in roughly square panels rather than long thin ones. On a driveway that means the joint pattern is part of the design, not an afterthought scratched in at the end.
Curing, and when the next trade can start
Fresh concrete is walkable in about a day and takes light vehicle traffic in about a week, but it keeps gaining strength for a month. When steel is getting anchored into it, that wait is real — anchor bolts set in green concrete pull out.
On a mixed job we use the wait rather than sitting through it: the steel is fabricated in the shop while the slab cures, so the metal crew arrives the day it can actually work. The project planner builds that wait into the window it quotes you.

Common questions
- Can you pour around gate posts or column bases?
- Yes — and doing it in one visit is much better than coring later. Tell us the steel is coming and the sleeves, footings and anchor bolts get set while the forms are still up.
- Do I need a permit for a driveway in Arlington?
- A drive approach that touches the city right-of-way generally needs a permit from the City of Arlington. We tell you what your specific job needs during the free walk-through, before anything is scheduled.Full answer
- How long before I can park on it?
- Roughly a week for normal vehicle traffic, and we tell you the date in writing at hand-over. Heavy equipment waits longer. Anything anchored into it waits for the concrete to take load.

Something to pour?
Send the dimensions and what the slab has to carry. If steel or insulation is part of the same job, say so — one walk-through covers all of it.
What helps us prepare your quote
- List the trades your project needs: concrete, metal fabrication and/or industrial insulation.
- Send the job location, photos or plans, and the order in which the work needs to happen.
- Use one request for the combined scope. For a single trade, its CJM website has the detailed service and design options.
